Welcome to the start of your supervision journey! To get things rolling, you'll need to visit the official BACB website and create your portal account. Setting this up will generate your official BACB ID number, which is essential for us to log your supervised hours together.

[02] Understand the fieldwork requirements

Before you begin logging hours, it is crucial to understand exactly what is expected of you. Take some time to explore the BACB website to get a solid grasp of the requirements for your specific certification path:

Also, please remember that the BACB is introducing some major changes to the certification requirements beginning in 2027. It's incredibly important to review these upcoming updates now so you can plan your coursework and fieldwork with confidence.

[03] Start your behavior-analytic coursework

Remember that before we can officially begin logging your fieldwork together, you’ll need to make sure you've started your behavior-analytic coursework. You cannot accrue supervision hours until after you've attended your first qualifying class!

You must obtain explicit written consent from the school district administration before transmitting live video or sharing educational records. We provide template consent forms, but your specific district's legal protocols will always take precedence.

What to expect?

What is remote supervision?

Remote supervision during BACB fieldwork hours means you receive high-quality, BCBA-led supervision without needing your supervisor to be on-site. I observe your work with clients through secure video or recorded sessions, then we meet online to review what happened, discuss your decisions, and plan next steps. During these meetings, we focus on building your clinical skills, applying the BACB ethics code, and making sure your activities and documentation meet BACB requirements so your hours count toward certification.

Will you communicate directly with my principal, lead teacher, or the district BCBA?

I serve as an independent mentor to you, not an employee of your district. While I can provide official documentation of our supervision if the school requests it, I do not directly intervene in school conversations, write district IEPs, or dictate classroom operations.

What do unrestricted hours look like in a school setting?

Common unrestricted activities include conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), writing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), graphing daily behavior data, creating token economies, and providing behavior-analytic training to teachers or paras.

Attending an IEP meeting counts as unrestricted time only if you are actively presenting behavior-analytic data, discussing behavioral goals, or consulting on behavior interventions. Passive attendance does not qualify.
